For private coding lessons for kids in Dubai, choose the learning goal before choosing the language. A child making their first animated story needs a different lesson from a teenager debugging Python or preparing for a school Computer Science exam. Ask what your child will create independently, how the teacher will check understanding and whether “at home” means an actual visit or a live online lesson.

Bestimate's Coding Lessons service is a children's activity route. This guide focuses on project-based learning at home, not university programming assignments, adult career courses or guaranteed school grades.

Quick answer: choose a course your child can explain

  • First exposure: prioritise a small working project, accessible controls and a patient instructor over a long list of languages.
  • Some experience: share an existing project and ask the tutor to identify the next concept, not repeat an entire beginner course.
  • School exam problem: use curriculum-matched Computer Science support rather than assuming a recreational coding class covers the exam specification.
  • Home visit: request it explicitly. Online lessons taken at home are a different delivery format.

Scratch, Python or game creation: what fits the learner?

Age labels can help narrow options, but reading confidence, typing, interests and previous experience matter too. ScratchJr is designed for ages 5–7 and uses visual programming on supported tablets and Chromebooks. Scratch's parent guidance describes its main audience as ages 8–16. These are product design ranges, not a rule that every child must change tools on a birthday.

Choose a starting point by what the child can do

Learner situationPossible starting pointEvidence to ask for in a trial
Young beginner, limited readingShort visual storytelling or sequencing activities using an appropriate toolChild can explain the order of actions without the adult doing every step
Comfortable reader, new to programmingBlock-based animation or a simple interactive gameChild changes a condition or sequence and predicts what happens
Already builds with blocksA more challenging project or an assessed transition to text-based codeTeacher can explain the gap being addressed, not just advertise a new language
Ready for typing and debuggingA small Python or other suitable text-based projectChild reads an error, tests a change and explains the result
Interested in a game platformCreation tools, scripting and age-appropriate account settingsActual building and reasoning, not mainly playing or purchasing game content

Do not confuse a polished finished game with independent understanding. Ask your child to change one feature and explain the change. A teacher can support the process, but if the learner cannot describe anything they made, the project may have involved too much copying or adult control.

Home visits and online classes are not the same offer

Actual home-visit coding tuition exists in Dubai. For example, iCodejr's local guide distinguishes a Dubai-only VIP home-visit programme from its online classes. Its advertised examples start at AED 250 per hour for visits, while online packages are quoted at AED 60–75 per class plus VAT. A class is not automatically an hour, and the home-visit tax and complete package terms still need confirmation.

These are one provider's advertised examples checked on 19 October 2026—not a Dubai market average, a Bestimate quote or evidence that the same teacher is available for your postcode and time. Do not merge them into a single hourly range. Ask other providers for the same duration, group size and delivery scope before comparing.

Choose a practical delivery format

FormatPotential fitQuestions that change the decision
Private visit at your homeA learner benefits from a teacher physically beside the deviceIs your area covered? Who supplies the laptop? Are travel and setup charged?
Live online one-to-oneA learner can use the device and follow screen sharing with appropriate supportHow are remote access, file sharing and parent permissions handled?
Small group classThe child enjoys peer projects and the pace suits their levelHow many learners share the teacher, and what happens when someone gets stuck?
Recorded courseA self-directed learner wants material to revisitWho answers questions, and is any live feedback actually included?
Laptop, notebook and pencil on a home study table with room for written planning
Check device compatibility, software and account permissions before the first coding lesson.

Check the device and account setup before paying

Send the provider your device type and operating system, not a password or remote-access code. Confirm the exact software, installation permissions and whether a school-managed laptop allows it. A tablet suitable for one introductory app may not support the tools used in a later course. A family laptop can also need a separate learner account so personal files are not visible during screen sharing.

Ask which accounts are necessary, what will be published publicly and whether the child can keep projects private. A parent should review age restrictions and permissions with the provider. Do not let a teacher bypass a platform's age controls or ask a child to enter an incorrect date of birth. The Scratch Foundation's digital-citizenship resources are a useful starting point for discussing participation in a creative online community.

Keep cameras, recordings and remote-control permissions proportionate to the lesson. Agree whether sessions are recorded, who receives them and how long they are retained. For a younger learner, have an adult available to help without taking over the project.

What should a coding package include?

A coding quote should describe the learning service

ItemWhat to compareWatch for
Teaching timeLive session count, minutes, group size and same-teacher policyRecorded access presented as equivalent to private teaching
Project scopeWhat is built, which concepts it develops and what the child does independentlyA large finished product with no explanation of the learning process
FeedbackHow mistakes are discussed, progress shared and next steps chosenCertificates used as the only evidence of progress
EquipmentDevice, software, licences and any robotics hardwareHidden kit or subscription costs
Ownership and accessWhether projects and source files remain available after the courseLosing the child's work when a membership ends
TermsTax, travel, missed sessions, expiry and tutor replacement arrangementsAn attractive package the family cannot complete around school and travel

For comparable offers, calculate live hours as sessions × minutes ÷ 60, then keep equipment and subscriptions separate. If the package includes mentoring between lessons, ask for its limits rather than pretending it is a known number of additional live hours. A total with unspecified software or travel costs is incomplete.

How to review a trial without judging by the graphics

Observe whether the instructor asks the child to predict, try and explain. It is normal for a programme to fail at first; the learning question is whether the child understands the next test. The teacher should make the task manageable without silently fixing the whole project.

Ask for a brief next-step plan after the trial: one concept to practise, one small change to attempt and the files needed at home. For a beginner, a simple animation that the child can modify may be more useful than a sophisticated application they cannot describe. Avoid promises of employment, university admission or advanced AI expertise from a short children's course.

If the request is really about school assignments, the Computer Science Tutoring service is the more precise route. For wider academic planning, the Dubai tutoring guide explains how to compare teaching scope and package terms. Neither replaces a coding-specific written quotation.

What to send when requesting coding lessons

  • Child's age, interests, reading/typing confidence and previous tools used.
  • Whether the goal is exploration, an independent project or school support.
  • Device and operating system, including any school-device restrictions.
  • Dubai neighbourhood for a visit, or online preference and available times.
  • One-to-one or shared learning and the number of children.
  • Any existing project you can share safely, with personal data removed.

Ask about instructor experience, child safeguarding and the provider's authorisation for the service offered. Do not assume a permit for an academic tutor proves every coding camp or activity provider has the same licensing arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Does “coding at home” mean the instructor comes to us?

Not always. It can mean an online class joined from home. Request “in-person home visit” and confirm your location, visit duration, travel costs and equipment responsibilities.

Should my child start with Scratch or Python?

Choose according to readiness and goals, not a claim that one language is always better. Visual blocks can introduce sequencing without a typing burden. Text-based work requires comfort with reading, typing and debugging; a trial can establish whether the transition is useful.

Can lessons use a tablet?

Some introductory tools, including ScratchJr on supported devices, can. Other projects require a laptop or desktop. Ask for the exact software and device requirements before enrolling or buying hardware.

Are coding lessons the same as Computer Science tutoring?

No. Recreational coding often centres on creative projects. A school Computer Science course can also assess theory, algorithms and syllabus-specific examination skills. Tell the provider which decision you need help with.

Do we need to purchase a robot or game subscription?

Only if the agreed course requires it. Ask for a separate list of mandatory and optional costs, who owns any kit and whether the same learning objective can be achieved without the purchase.

Will a certificate prove that my child has learned to code?

It can record participation, but it does not by itself show independent skill. Ask the child to explain and change part of their project, and request specific feedback from the instructor.
