Quick answer
A sagging cupboard door or sticking drawer does not automatically require a new kitchen. First establish whether the fault is adjustment, worn hardware or damaged material holding the fittings. One reviewed Dubai provider advertises AED 120–180 for hinge adjustment and AED 150–250 per replacement hinge; these are different scopes, not a universal repair price. Count the affected doors, hinges and drawers before comparing quotes.
This guide is for restoring the function of retained kitchen cabinets: doors, hinges, drawer runners, handles and local fixing points. Refacing changes visible finishes; a renovation changes a wider kitchen scope. Neither is a like-for-like substitute for repairing a few faulty moving parts.
Identify the repair scope without dismantling the cabinet
| What you can observe | Assessment to request | Why a small quote can miss the job |
|---|---|---|
| Door edges rub or the gaps look uneven | Door alignment, hinge condition and the cabinet box | Adjustment alone may not resolve damaged hinges or a distorted box. |
| A hinge or plate is pulling away | The fitting and the strength of the material at its fixing points | Replacing the hinge alone may leave the same failed attachment. |
| Drawer sticks, drops or will not close fully | Runner alignment, matching hardware, drawer structure and obstructions | A runner pair, locking part or drawer repair may be needed—not just lubrication. |
| Under-sink board is swollen or soft | Source of moisture, affected panels and whether sound fixings remain possible | A cosmetic patch does not repair an active leak or restore failed material. |
| Cabinet unit moves or pulls away from the wall | Urgent professional assessment of the cabinet and its mounting | This is not a routine door-adjustment booking; stop using the affected area. |
Keep children away from loose doors or drawers. Do not pull a partly detached door, remove loaded drawers, or try to support a moving wall cabinet yourself. Stop using an unstable unit and arrange professional help. Do not drill around hidden water, electrical or gas services to test a fixing point.
Dubai cabinet-repair prices: check what the unit means
These indicative planning references were checked on 16 September 2026. They are not quotes, recommendations or Bestimate transaction data. They cannot support one citywide range because parts, units and access are not consistently stated.
| Public reference | Advertised AED amount | Comparison caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Handyman Dubai: hinge adjustment | 120–180 | Count of doors/hinges covered is not explicit. Ask whether this is a minimum visit or a defined adjustment job. |
| Handyman Dubai: hinge replacement | 150–250 per hinge | Do not read this as per door. Confirm the hinge specification, parts, fixing-point repair and tax. |
| Handyman Dubai: drawer runner repair | 180–300 | Confirm the number of drawers, whether this means repair or a replacement pair, and included hardware. |
| Handyman Services Dubai: cabinet-door replacement | 220–500 plus the door | Replacement fitting is not minor adjustment. Parts/consumables are separately quoted; confirm the leaf count. |
| Handyman Services Dubai: diagnosis | 99 per callout | Advertised as adjusted against work that proceeds. Confirm how it interacts with the written job total and VAT. |
Confirm tax and attendance terms in an itemised quotation. Three hinges and three doors are not comparable units; neither quote is cheaper until the counts and repair methods match.
Compare quotes with the same units and hardware scope
Enter the unit count, per-unit or whole-job labour, parts terms, visit and VAT. Use a whole-job amount for mixed repairs. Keep provider prices on one tax basis; customer-bought parts use their final VAT-inclusive retail cost, added after provider VAT. Visit credits cannot exceed the separate visit charge or eligible provider work, excluding customer purchases.
The tool does not diagnose damage or specify hardware. Unknown parts, tax or essential repairs prevent an all-in comparison. Mark scope complete only when both providers cover the same items, hardware and fixing repairs.

A matching-looking hinge may still be the wrong part
Ask the carpenter to match the application, not merely the colour. Blum’s hinge range separates hardware for different front thicknesses, materials, opening arrangements and corner applications. The existing mounting plate, door geometry and required clearance matter alongside the hinge itself.
A door count also does not establish the number of hinges. Blum’s hinge-planning guidance considers door weight and dimensions, including additional weight such as handles. Ask which fittings will be retained and why; neither “replace every hinge” nor “one new hinge is enough” is a universal rule.

If screws have torn out of the cabinet side or door, have the supporting material assessed. The quotation should identify the proposed fixing repair or panel replacement, not conceal it within a vague hardware allowance. A larger screw or a new soft-close hinge is not by itself evidence that the attachment will be sound.
Drawer runners: quote the pair, fit and intended load
A runner replacement needs more than the drawer’s visible width. Blum’s MOVENTO specifications distinguish lengths, load classes and opening/closing technologies. Those differences illustrate why a provider needs to identify the installed system; they are not a recommendation to fit that brand or proof of local stock.
- Ask whether the price covers a matched runner pair, required locking fittings, alignment and a movement check—not one loose rail.
- Describe the drawer’s normal contents and any damaged base or joints. New runners do not repair a broken drawer box.
- Specify whether you want the original operation restored or a soft-close/push-to-open upgrade. An upgrade can need more than swapping one component.
- Confirm part availability before the visit. An unidentified proprietary fitting may require a measured return visit or a different repair proposal.
Repair, replace one panel, or reface the kitchen?
| Route | Suitable question to ask | Scope to keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustment or hardware repair | Are the retained door, drawer and cabinet box sound enough for this repair? | New fronts, decoration and kitchen-wide upgrades. |
| Local door or panel replacement | Which damaged item is replaced, and how will its finish and fittings match? | Adjacent fronts and panels not named in the quote. |
| Cabinet refacing | Are the retained boxes suitable, and which visible surfaces change? | Active leaks, failed mounting and structural cabinet repairs. |
| Wider kitchen work | Does the layout, worktop support or several cabinet boxes need redesign/replacement? | A small repair quote is not a renovation budget. |
If the aim is a new appearance across serviceable units, use the kitchen cabinet refacing guide. For layout and wider replacement, see the kitchen renovation cost guide. Keep this repair request focused on restoring function so it can be assessed without automatically expanding into a refurbishment.
Under a sink, stop an active water problem before closing it behind new cabinet material. Keep away from wet electrical equipment and contact a plumber or building management as appropriate. Ask a multi-trade firm to separate the leak repair from the carpentry scope and identify who checks the area before reinstatement. Do not assume drying or covering a swollen board restores its strength.
An example: four hinges are not four doors
Illustrative arithmetic only: an assessed repair needs four replacement hinges across two doors. If labour is AED 50 per hinge, quoted hardware totals AED 120, and a separately added AED 80 visit receives an AED 80 credit, the pre-tax total is (4 × 50) + 120 + 80 − 80 = AED 320. If those figures exclude 5% VAT, the total is AED 336. These invented example inputs explain the arithmetic; they are not advertised market rates.
The standard UAE VAT rate is 5%. Apply it once on the confirmed basis. If a second provider gives a whole-job labour figure, do not multiply that amount by four. Likewise, parts marked “included” should not be added again, and an unpriced replacement panel cannot be entered as free.
Send a repair schedule, not just “fix kitchen cupboards”
- Number the affected items in a written list: for example, door A rubs, door B has a loose upper hinge and drawer C drops. Record approximate dimensions only if safely accessible; the technician should confirm measurements.
- Send an overall view and close-ups of safely visible fittings or damage, without removing a door or drawer. Crop or blur names, addresses, phone numbers, unit numbers, delivery labels, barcodes, serial labels and unrelated faces. Put contact details and access instructions in private booking fields.
- State whether the kitchen is occupied, whether the affected cupboard contains plumbing or appliance connections, and whether any leak has been repaired. Ask about dust protection, food preparation areas and items you should safely clear before attendance.
- Confirm building access, work hours, parking and any restrictions on noisy cutting. For a rental, agree non-emergency changes and visible finish substitutions with the landlord or property manager under your maintenance arrangement.
- Require a count, repair method, hardware specification, parts allowance, site versus workshop work, return-visit terms, disposal, VAT and any written workmanship/product terms. Approve finish samples where a new visible panel is involved.
- Before handover, ask the technician to demonstrate secure fittings, clearances, normal door/drawer movement and the agreed closing function. Record unresolved rubbing, poor matching or looseness before accepting completion.
For a visit combining several genuinely small tasks, the Dubai handyman pricing guide explains broader booking comparisons. A technical-services company can coordinate carpentry and another trade, but the quotation should still name each task, responsible trade and acceptance check.

Can kitchen cabinets be repaired without replacing the kitchen?
Often an assessment can identify a local adjustment, hardware or panel repair. Whether that is suitable depends on the condition of the retained cabinet and fixing points. Unstable mounting or widespread material damage needs a different scope.
Is cabinet repair priced per door or per hinge?
Either basis may appear, alongside whole-job and visit prices. Get an explicit count and unit for every line. Two doors can need more than two hinges, while a whole-job amount should not be multiplied again.
Can I upgrade existing kitchen drawers to soft close?
Possibly, but the drawer, cabinet clearances and compatible hardware need checking. A soft-close upgrade is a different scope from realigning the existing runners, and may require additional fittings or modification.
Will a new hinge fix screws that keep pulling out?
Not necessarily. The supporting door or cabinet material may need repair or replacement. Ask the carpenter to explain the attachment method and assess the fixing points before selecting the hardware.
Should a swollen under-sink cabinet be repaired first?
Have any active leak identified and resolved before reinstatement. Then assess the affected material and what can safely remain. A cover panel or fresh finish alone does not address moisture or failed fixing points.
Is cabinet refacing the same as repair?
No. Refacing changes the visible finish of retained cabinetry. Hardware repair restores movement and attachment. They can be quoted together, but each scope and its exclusions should remain clear.
