How the landed cost calculation works
- Repair subtotal = agreed labour and materials + separate collection/return + net payable inspection fee + other confirmed repair charges.
- Replacement subtotal = comparable furniture price + separate delivery + assembly/installation + old-item disposal + other confirmed replacement charges.
- Apply each option's VAT wording once. A VAT-inclusive amount stays unchanged; a VAT-exclusive subtotal receives 5%.
- Show the difference only when both options have complete prices and scope statuses. Unknown extras are never assumed to be free.
If inspection is credited against the work, enter only the amount still payable in addition to the repair base. This is total project cost, not the balance remaining after a deposit. It does not automatically calculate credits, resale proceeds or financing.
What the result cannot decide
A lower entered repair cost does not prove the repair is suitable or longer lasting. Ask about material, concealed damage, repair method, replacement-part availability, expected finish and written warranty. Compare a replacement that actually meets the required size and function.
Do not use damaged load-bearing furniture, unstable seating or loose anchoring while deciding. Structural and stability questions require an appropriate professional assessment. The calculator has no percentage threshold that recommends repair or replacement.
Prepare one clear quote brief
- Identify the item, approximate dimensions, material where known, damage and desired outcome.
- Photograph the whole item and affected joint or fitting without exposing private documents or unrelated people.
- Confirm site repair versus workshop collection, both transport directions, building access and return installation.
- Ask what remains payable if you decline the repair after inspection, and whether any inspection charge is credited.

VAT and input limits
Select each quote's written VAT wording. The tool adds 5% once only when excluded, leaves inclusive amounts unchanged, and shows no VAT only when you confirm the provider's written no-VAT position. The Federal Tax Authority identifies the standard UAE VAT rate as 5%. Keep all lines within an option on the same tax basis; normalise mixed-supplier quotes before entry.
Amounts must be between AED 0 and AED 1,000,000 with up to two decimal places. Explicit zero is allowed; a blank is not zero. Use plain digits with a decimal point, not currency symbols, commas or exponents. Results are rounded to fils. The total calculation limit is AED 100,000,000. These are input safeguards, not market-price ranges.
