Door painting in Dubai should be quoted by the actual finish and surfaces, not just “one door”. One checked provider advertises an interior door, both sides, from AED 150; its door, frame and architrave package starts at AED 300, while full interior stripping and repainting starts at AED 350. These are different advertised packages, not a market average or guaranteed quote.

Choose repainting for a suitable sound surface when you want an opaque colour. Ask for a separate refinishing assessment if you want to retain visible wood grain, remove failing finishes or restore damaged timber. Swelling, loose veneer and door-operation problems need assessment before decoration.
A smooth new colour cannot repair an underlying door fault. Equally, a scuffed but sound bedroom door may not need to be stripped to bare timber. The useful first decision is what to preserve, what to remove and exactly which surfaces the painter will finish.
Use Bestimate's Dubai painting service for an interior-painting enquiry, specifying door-only work and your material and finish. Confirm specialist capability separately for exterior doors or natural-grain restoration. For walls and wider decorating scope, see the painting cost guide.
What do Dubai door-painting prices actually cover?
The following public offers were checked on 12 October 2026. They are indicative advertised prices, not Bestimate transaction data. VAT, minimum charges and the final preparation specification need written confirmation.
| Provider's advertised package | Advertised AED | What remains to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Repairs: single interior door, both sides | From 150 per door | Edges, frame and minimum call-out; the page says a minimum charge applies to single-door work. |
| Same provider: door, frame and architrave | From 300 per package | Number of faces, trim extent and condition. Do not add the door-only price to this package. |
| Same provider: full strip and repaint | Interior from 350; exterior from 500 | Quoted surfaces, removal method and repairs; this is repainting, not necessarily natural-grain refinishing. |
| Quality Painters: door painting | 300 per door | Preparation is listed, but face count, frame, stripping and VAT are not specified. |
These offers do not establish an all-in Dubai price range. A basic repaint cannot be compared directly with stripping, stain matching or workshop spraying. Your actual price depends on the written scope, material, condition, access, coating system and provider assessment.
Compare your door-painting quotes
Use your own quoted amounts to compare the same door count, faces, frames, preparation and finish. Identify whether each amount is per face, per leaf or for the whole job; keep VAT, transport, repairs and return visits visible. An unpriced extra is unknown, not free. A lower total is meaningful only after the scope matches.
Match the decorative work before comparing totals. Opaque repainting, natural-grain refinishing and prerequisite door repairs are separate scopes; this tool does not select a coating or invent a refinishing multiplier.
Open the full door painting & refinishing quote comparison. Unknown costs stay unresolved; no complete quote comparison appears until both quotes have the same confirmed scope. This tool uses your prices, not an automatic market estimate.
Illustrative arithmetic only, not a market rate: three matching leaves at AED 100 labour each, AED 60 separate provider coatings and AED 90 agreed trim work total AED 450 before VAT, or AED 472.50 if all provider amounts exclude 5% VAT. Both faces are already in each leaf rate. The visit and every other required line are confirmed included or not needed.
Repaint, refinish or repair first?
The door leaf is the moving panel; the frame is its fixed surround, and architrave is the decorative trim around it. A pair of doors has two leaves even if it fills one opening. Write these quantities separately.
For sticking or damaged doors, start with the door repair guide. If replacement is already the decision, the door installation guide separates fitting a leaf from replacing a complete frame.
| Starting condition | Scope to discuss | Decision boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Sound paint with scuffs or a colour change | Cleaning, compatible preparation, local filling and repainting | Specify the new colour, sheen and required coverage; full stripping is not automatic. |
| Peeling, heavy layers or an uncertain existing coating | Coating assessment and appropriate removal before a new system | Agree dust/chemical controls and a method suitable for the substrate. |
| Visible timber grain to retain | Compatible stain or clear-finish restoration, with a sample | Existing colour and damage may limit the result; “polish” must be defined. |
| Swelling, loose veneer, movement or failed latching | Repair and cause assessment before finishing | Do not accept paint as the proposed cure for moisture or mechanical faults. |
Material matters more than the word “premium”
Ask the provider to identify the surface: solid timber, veneer over an engineered core, painted MDF, laminate, uPVC or metal. Similar-looking doors can require different preparation. A wood-look surface is not proof of solid wood that can be aggressively sanded back.
XL Joinery's internal-door instructions require finish compatibility with veneered or engineered doors and restrict certain treatments on its products. That is a reason to check your door's own instructions, not to apply one manufacturer's restrictions to every door. Ask how veneer edges, damaged areas and exposed timber will be protected.
uPVC is not simply another timber door. Zinsser's PVC-door guidance specifies cleaning and a compatible coating system. Confirm the proposed system, exterior suitability where relevant and any door-manufacturer restrictions before accepting the finish. For rusted metal, ask for corrosion preparation rather than an opaque coat over the defect.

What should be written into the painting scope?
| Quote line | Require a clear answer |
|---|---|
| Count and coverage | Leaf count; one or both faces; edges; frame and architrave on which sides; glazing exclusions. |
| Preparation and finish | Cleaning, filling, coating removal, primer where required, named topcoat, coat specification, colour and sheen. |
| Hardware and method | What is removed and refitted or masked; brush/roller versus spray; on-site versus workshop; transport and re-hanging. |
| Protection and handover | Floor/furniture protection, ventilation, cleanup, usable-door timing, care instructions and snagging terms. |
| Final payable amount | VAT status, minimum visit charge, repair allowances, access costs and approval before extra work. |
Agree satin, eggshell or gloss using a sample, not a colour name alone. The same colour can look different with a different sheen. Dulux's door-painting guidance illustrates the importance of floor protection, handle removal and hinge masking. Ask who reinstates the hardware and checks operation afterwards.
Drying, curing and Dubai access
“Finished today” should not mean “ready for scrubbing today”. Ask separately about recoat time, when hardware can be refitted, when the door may close normally and when the finish can be cleaned. These depend on the specified product and conditions. Sherwin-Williams explains that sticking to weather-stripping can occur during early curing; a surface that looks dry is not a promise of trouble-free immediate use.
For an occupied apartment, agree ventilation, room access and dust control before work starts. For a villa entrance, describe direct sun, exposure and how the home will remain secure during removal or drying. Check contractor access, work hours, parking and any required owner or management consent. Do not obstruct an escape route or wedge a fire door open to solve a drying problem.
If an entrance door is labelled fire-rated or has smoke/intumescent seals, stop the ordinary decorative brief and ask management and a suitable specialist for the approved maintenance approach. Do not sand labels, coat seals or alter door hardware as a cosmetic shortcut.
Send providers a useful, privacy-safe brief
- Count each leaf and describe the rooms, material if known, one/both faces and frame requirements.
- Send a full-door photo and close-ups of peeling, edge damage and the existing finish, taken without dismantling anything.
- State whether you want solid colour or visible grain, with a colour reference and preferred sheen if decided.
- Describe occupied/vacant status, access restrictions and the date by which doors must be usable.
- Ask for a written preparation schedule, final tax-inclusive payable amount where applicable and any separate repair proposal.
Crop out faces, keys, access cards, apartment numbers and personal documents. Share exact entry arrangements privately with the selected provider. At handover, check agreed coverage in normal light, clean hardware and smooth closing; record defects before accepting completion.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price per door or per side?
It can be either. Specify each leaf, the number of painted faces, edge treatment and surrounding trim. Do not multiply a both-sides rate by two, or assume a door-only rate includes its frame.
Does refinishing mean the same thing as painting?
No. Repainting generally gives an opaque finish. Refinishing may involve removing an old coating and renewing a stain or clear finish. Ask what will be removed, what appearance is achievable and which surfaces are included.
Can veneer or uPVC doors be painted?
Some can, with a suitable system and sound substrate. Confirm the actual material and manufacturer guidance first. Loose veneer or an incompatible factory finish needs assessment; generic wood-paint instructions are not enough.
Must the door be removed?
Not always. Agree how all specified surfaces and hardware edges will be reached. Workshop spraying adds removal, transport, storage and re-hanging questions that an in-place repaint does not.
How soon can I close or clean a newly painted door?
Use the selected coating's instructions and the painter's written handover advice. Recoat, handling and full-service times are different; there is no reliable single drying time for every door finish.
Should I repaint a swollen bathroom door?
Have the moisture source and door condition assessed first. Decoration alone will not resolve continuing damp, delamination or a door that no longer fits correctly.
