Quick answer: In Dubai, allow about AED 250–500 for a pool-equipment diagnostic visit. A confirmed pump or motor job often falls around AED 350–3,500, while full replacement commonly starts around AED 1,500–6,000. Filters, chlorinators, automation and pool heaters or chillers have different price bands, so compare diagnosis, repair and replacement as separate scopes.
Cloudy water, weak return flow, a noisy pump or a pool that will not heat does not identify the failed part. The same symptom can originate at the water level, skimmer basket, valves, pipework, filter, electrical controls or the equipment itself. This guide focuses on the plant-room equipment. For tiles, waterproofing or shell work, use the Dubai pool renovation guide; for routine cleaning and chemistry, see the pool maintenance guide.

These are planning ranges compiled from current public Dubai/UAE prices, not Bestimate transaction averages and not fixed quotes. Public pages often combine repair and replacement or omit exact parts. Premium imports, discontinued components, commercial redundancy, after-hours work, poor drainage and difficult access can move the total beyond the table.
Estimate repair and replacement separately
Start with the closest equipment category, then say whether the failed component has actually been confirmed. The calculator keeps symptom-only cases at a diagnostic range. It also flags older or repeatedly failing equipment where a like-for-like replacement quote is important.
Open the full pool equipment cost calculator to copy a consistent quote brief. Select VAT only when the provider explicitly says its price excludes VAT.
Start with a system diagnosis, not a guessed part
A useful visit observes the pool and plant room as one circuit. The technician should confirm pool water level and suction openings, clean or inspect baskets, check valve positions, look for air entering the pump lid, observe the filter gauge and returns, and review the timer or automation schedule. If the pump is noisy, the sound should be distinguished from cavitation, bearing noise, vibration against the base or debris in the impeller.
Ask for the diagnosis in plain writing. “Pump not working” is not enough. A stronger report says, for example, that supply voltage was present, the motor did not start, the capacitor tested out of tolerance and the impeller turned freely. That evidence makes the repair comparable and reduces the chance that every provider prices a different assumption.

Pump repair: flow and head matter more than matching horsepower
A pool pump moves water against the resistance of suction pipe, filters, heaters, returns and water features. Replacing a 1.5 HP pump with another 1.5 HP unit does not guarantee the same operating point. The quote should identify the exact model and confirm that its performance curve suits the required flow and total head. For a variable-speed pump, ask which speeds and schedules will be commissioned rather than accepting a factory default.
A minor repair may include a lid seal, mechanical seal, capacitor, basket or priming correction. A major repair can involve the motor, bearings or impeller. If the pump has run dry, overheated or flooded, ask whether associated seals, insulation and electrical protection were tested. Repeatedly replacing one component without correcting restricted flow, poor ventilation or water ingress is false economy.
Filter and multiport valve: define the exact scope
A sand-filter quote can refer to a backwash correction, new media, replacement laterals, a multiport valve, a gauge or the complete vessel. Those are not equivalent jobs. Ask for the media type and quantity, the condition of the laterals, valve and O-rings, and a post-service pressure and flow check. If the vessel, clamp or lid is damaged, do not treat it as a routine leak: filters operate under pressure.
Dubai Municipality's swimming-pool planning guidance calls for filtration details including valves, air release, pressure gauge and associated equipment, and also sets broader circulation and disinfection requirements. A villa repair does not automatically become a new-plan approval project, but major modifications should be checked against the pool's approved design and any community requirements.
Chlorination, automation and temperature control
Salt cells wear, chemical sensors drift, dosing tubes and pumps deteriorate, and control boards can fail. Before approving replacement, ask for the cell or sensor condition, controller fault history, pool volume and compatibility with the existing power and plumbing. A low-cost controller is not a useful substitution if it cannot operate the current valves, lights or temperature equipment.
Pool heaters and chillers sit at the expensive end because capacity, hydraulic bypass, heat exchanger, refrigerant circuit, controls and electrical supply all matter. A major repair quote should name the failed component and warranty. A replacement quote should state the model, rated capacity at relevant operating conditions, pipe and cable changes, condensate or drainage provisions, commissioning and removal of the old unit.
Repair or replace?
| Repair may be reasonable when | Compare replacement when |
|---|---|
| The fault is confirmed and limited to a supported component | The unit has repeated failures or water/electrical damage |
| The equipment is relatively young and correctly sized | The equipment is old, obsolete or parts have long lead times |
| The repair carries a useful parts and labour warranty | The repair approaches a large share of installed replacement |
| The plant room is dry, ventilated and serviceable | The original installation created overheating or access problems |
Do not compare only the purchase price. Include labour, unions and valves, electrical work, base or vibration isolation, removal, commissioning, downtime and both warranties. An itemised repair can still be the better option; the point is to compare the same installed outcome.
Plant-room layout and safety checks
Pool equipment should have safe access, drainage and ventilation. Controls should be protected from water, pipes should not obstruct service covers, and chemical storage should follow manufacturer and local safety requirements. For holiday homes, current Dubai Municipality guidance specifically calls for pump-room ventilation, closure when not in use and worker PPE near the room.
If standing water is near motors or controls, a breaker trips, wiring is damaged, or there is smoke or severe heat, stop normal price shopping and use the appropriate qualified isolation route. Pentair's service guidance for pool pumps and filters instructs users to turn off power, prevent unexpected starting and relieve system pressure before service. Do not loosen a filter clamp or lid while it is pressurised.
How to compare pool equipment quotes
- Send the same evidence: whole-room photos, equipment nameplates, control display, symptom video and recent service history.
- Separate diagnosis, repair and replacement: do not accept one unexplained total covering all three.
- Request exact models: record pump curve, filter capacity, cell/controller compatibility or heater/chiller rating.
- List enabling work: valves, unions, pipe changes, cables, drainage, access and removal.
- Define testing: pressure, flow, leak check, electrical protection, programming and operational handover.
- Compare the final commercial terms: VAT, exclusions, lead time, payment schedule, parts warranty and labour warranty.
Bestimate comparison tip: describe the symptom once and attach the full plant-room and nameplate photos. Then compare multiple quotes for free using the same diagnosis and installed scope, rather than asking each provider a different question.

Frequently asked questions
How much does pool pump repair cost in Dubai?
Use AED 250–500 for diagnosis, about AED 350–1,500 for many confirmed minor pump jobs and AED 800–3,500 for major pump or motor work as broad 2026 planning bands. Installed replacement commonly starts around AED 1,500–6,000, with higher-capacity or premium variable-speed equipment potentially above that.
Is a noisy pump always failing?
No. Air entering the suction side, a blocked basket, poor prime, cavitation, debris, vibration or a valve restriction can also create noise. Record when the noise occurs and request an observed flow, suction and filter check before authorising a motor replacement.
Should the pool filter be replaced at the same time as the pump?
Not automatically. The filter should be assessed for capacity, pressure behaviour, vessel condition, media, laterals and valve condition. Replace it only when the evidence and scope support replacement; otherwise it can be serviced separately.
Does the price include VAT?
Not by default in this guide or calculator. UAE VAT is generally 5% for taxable goods and services, but public provider pages differ on whether advertised figures include it. Add VAT only when the written quote says it is excluded.
Can pool equipment be repaired outdoors beside the pool?
Technicians may test equipment where it is installed, but the permanent arrangement should provide safe, protected, drained and ventilated access appropriate to the approved system. Exposed controls, standing water and unsafe service clearance are reasons to stop and correct the installation context.
